Not every rice flour production line requires an air classifier mill. For small food factories producing rice flour for applications where extremely fine flour is not required, a simpler disc-type grinding machine can provide a more practical balance between grinding performance, capacity and equipment cost. Here we will share a case with you in which SLU-30 model disc mill was used to make 20-100 mesh rice flour.

I. Rice flour Grinding Project Overview
This recent project was designed for a customer who needed to process rice into flour at approximately 50-60 kg/h. The customer’s target was not ultra-fine rice flour. Instead, the requirement was to produce rice flour within approximately 20-100 mesh, with the majority of the finished flour concentrated around 40-80 mesh.
Based on the required capacity, particle-size range and budget, we selected the SLU-30 disc mill rather than a larger air classifier mill. The customer also requested flexibility in controlling the finished flour size, so we supplied multiple screens for production adjustment and carried out a rice grinding test before shipment. II. Why Did the Customer Choose a Disc Mill Instead of an Air Classifier Mill
When customers search for a rice flour grinding machine, it is easy to assume that a more sophisticated grinding system is always better. That is not necessarily true. The correct questions are what particle size does the customer actually need and what is the bearable purchasing cost.
In this case, the customer did not pursue very fine rice flour such as 100-200 mesh fine flour. Most powder in 40-80 mesh range can meet his demand. The disc type mill can get such range rice powder, and the air classifier mill can also reach and the powder size can be finer. But when it comes to the purchasing cost, the disc mill shows much cheaper price below USD3,000 while the small model of the air classifier mill is over USD10,000. Certainly, the high speed pin mill can also meet the customer’s fineness requirement but the price higher than disc mill and extra cooling machine is required to avoid the overheating problem. Therefore, the best grinder choice for the customer in this case is the SLU series disc mill. Based on the capacity requirement, we picked up the SLU-30 model for him.
III. Why Are Screens Important for This Application
For this customer, we supplied multiple screens rather than configuring the machine for only one fixed output size. The supplied screens included 5 pieces of 40 mesh sieves and 5 pieces of 60 mesh sieves. The reasons for supplying multiple screens are simple:
Reason 1: Different screen openings can influence the particle-size distribution and production performance.
In screen-based grinding systems, the material generally remains inside the grinding chamber until particles are able to pass through the selected screen. Similar rice flour mills use interchangeable screens to adjust the output fineness. This gives the customer greater flexibility than purchasing a machine configured around only one screen.
Reason 2: Multiple pieces of sieves can give enough support for the long time running need of the powder grinder.
During repeated production, they may need cleaning, inspection or replacement. Having several screens available means the customer does not necessarily need to stop production while waiting for a replacement screen. Especially for rice grinding, the screen is easy to wear. It is very necessary to purchase more pieces of screen in stock as spare parts for replacement.
